Performing Options for All Students:
Dance is a celebration and a performance art. Besides the beauty of watching someone you care about, there is often a message from the lyrics or the feeling from an instrumental piece that is shown through movement. It’s truly exhilarating to watch, and creates one of the best memories dancers and dance supporters will have. Wausau Academy of Dance provides performance opportunities for all students. One of the goals of the studio is to share our love of the art form with the community, so we have an array of options.
The studio presents a recital every spring at the Grand Theater that highlights the skills and growth from almost all of our classes. (Upper level ballet classes include some technique only offerings). Though participation is not mandatory, most dancers enjoy the time on the stage and the chance to showcase the dances learned for that year.
Summer Camps & Intensives:
Summer Intensives include a performance, usually at the 400 Block, after completing professional training. The studio invites guest instructors who are working currently in the field to choreograph and instruct pieces for a unique dance experience. Camps are an informal option and may include crafts and activities for our younger dancers. Summer season camps have a performance showcased at the studio.
Community performances occur for our Strive and Spark team groups at our yearly Children’s Miracle Network holiday fundraiser, called “The Most Wonderful Time of the Year”. The studio has also performed at the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Event, the Humane Society Fundraiser at the Dock of Du Bay, the Wisconsin Valley Fair, Weston Fest, and at local nursing homes.
Solos are choreographed in the summers. This opportunity requires additional time for choreography and practice with mandatory rehearsals throughout the year. The studio has a yearly solo show in February, and most students also compete at competitions with these solos.
